The days are getting shorter again and falls has definitely arrived in Tofino. But fall is a great time here in Tofino: Surfing gets bigger and more consistent during the fall and winter months. So if you want to catch some really good waves THIS is the time. There is also great things happening in the community in fall: Tofino Harvest Celebration, Edge to Edge Marathon, Tofino Adventure Film Festival, Tofino Oyster festival (don't miss the Mermaid's Ball - the official kick off of the festival), Jingle Into Christmas (definitely one of our favorites!), concerts and shows at the Tofino Legion and the Clayoquot Sound Theater, and...the Tofino Hot Cacao Trail - to name just a few of the many things that are set to happen here in the next few weeks. Make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook events section and the Tourism Tofino Events website where your can everything that is happening in and round Tofino and lots of tips for things to do while visiting.
Uh, and of course, don't forget about endless beach walks, rainforest walks, storm watching (storm season official starts in November), getting out on the water for some Standup paddling or kayaking (you can do this year round in Tofino), wildlife viewing, or enjoying a good book and hot chocolate in front of our fire place.
Also make sure you also check out our discounted tours and explore the waters in and around Tofino: Our guests receive discounts on whale watching, bear watching and hotsprings tours as well as surf lessons and Standup paddle boarding. Tours and activities book up quickly so make sure you let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in any activities while visiting us here in Tofino.
You don't have a car? No worries! Tofino is easy to reach if you are carless :) There is currently two bus companies with service to Tofino. Check out Island Link bus and Tofino Bus/Vancouver Island Connector - with bus service from Nanaimo and Victoria to Tofino. Alternatively, you can also fly to Tofino: Pacific Coastal Airlines has really good rates and the flight just takes 45 minutes from Vancouver South Terminal. Our you can opt for a true Westcoast experience and take a floatplane: Harbour Air, Tofino Air, and Atleo Air.
Getting around in Tofino is also a breeze if you did not bring your own car: Tofino has a public transit system, connecting Tofino and Ucluelet - with many stops along the way. So you won't need a car anymore to get to Pacific Rim National Park. Effective June 24, 2024 the FREE shuttle bus will also run again. And ;last but not least: We have an onsite bike rental here at the hostel - perfect if you want to explore Tofino and surrounding area by bicycle.

Hostelling and a natural respect for the natural environment go hand in hand, and our environmental statement includes but is not limited to the following points ~
Use of Eco-friendly Products and Services wherever possible
We strive to change our consumption patterns by choosing cost-effective products and suppliers who eliminate, minimize or mitigate adverse environmental impacts by: - Use environmentally biodegradable cleaning products and detergents. We use ECO-MAX - Change our light bulbs to energy efficient LEDS - Turning off lights whenever possible - Using water efficient flush toilets to save water
Compost and Recycling Programs are in place at HI TOFINO
(Thank-you Tofino Urban Farm!) We will reduce, and where possible eliminate, waste through source reduction, re-use and recycling. All other waste will be handled and disposed of through safe and responsible methods.
Information and Education
We will build awareness and share information to enable effective implementation of our environmental policies and practices, and by encouraging workshops and events that educate our guests about the environment. We will work with local organizations such as the Raincoast Conservation Foundation and others to promote these initiatives.
